Works in stock Stephen Reid, RBA (1873-1948) was a well-known Scottish painter of historical and costume pieces, mainly in oils, as well as being a portrait painter and illustrator.  He was born in Aberdeen and studied at Gray’s School of Art in that city and later at the RSA Life School in Edinburgh.  Reid exhibited at the Royal Academy 1909-1937, at the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters and with the Royal Society of British Artists where he was a member from 1905 to 1917.  His work is represented in several public collections including Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museum, Museum of Gloucester, Reading Museum, and The National Trust for Scotland.  He moved to England prior to World War I living at Chesham in Buckinghamshire, then Northwood in Middlesex and then in London for a good many years.
