Joseph Milner Kite (1862-1946) was a well known painter of
portraits, figure subjects, landscapes and still life in
both oil and watercolour. He studied art in Antwerp and
Paris and painted extensively in Brittany, especially in and
around Concarneau. Kite exhibited at the Royal Society of
British Artists from the 1880s, at the Royal Academy from
1902, and extensively in France where he was a member of the
Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts. He also worked in Morocco,
Spain, Cornwall and North Wales. His paintings are held in a
number of public collections in the UK and abroad, including
the Atkinson Art Gallery Stockport and the Royal Albert
Memorial Museum Exeter.
Kite lived in Paris for many years and
died in France.
