Dick Lee (1923-2001) was a well known painter mainly in oils of landscapes and interiors.  He was born Richard Dale Lee in Bulawayo in what was  Southern Rhodesia.  After coming to England he studied art at Camberwell 1947-50 under Coldstream, Rogers and Pasmore and later taught at Camberwell 1953-82.  He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1953, also with The London Group, Artists’ International Association, The Leicester Galleries, and had many solo shows at The New Grafton Gallery and elsewhere.  Dick Lee’s work is represented in several public collections, including The Imperial War Museum, The Government Art Collection, The Arts Council Collection, Southampton City Art Gallery and Reading Museum.  He tended to paint on a small scale, completed on the spot, and favourite subjects included street scenes in Barnes near his then home in south west London and views in Normandy near his home in France.
